The calculation is based on the ammonium/ammonia equilibrium:
NH₄⁺ ⇌ NH₃ + H⁺
The NH₃ fraction is determined using the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation, taking temperature and ionic strength (salinity) into account.
Conversion formula: NH₄-N = NH₄⁺ × 0.776
