The idea of combining fish farming and plant cultivation is anything but new. At the moment, aquaculture or aquaponics as a method is experiencing an enormous upswing due to recent technical innovations. There are now a large number of small and medium-sized producers in the USA. However, there are no exact figures on how high the production volume in aquaponics systems can be estimated worldwide, and the method is not used across the board. Compared to conventional systems, production is currently still extremely low.
A recent analysis of the regional aspects of the aquaponics market in the US shows that growing demand has led the North America region to hold a large share of 42.0% to 45.0% of the global aquaponics market in its territory by 2025. Aquaponics requires minimal water areas for growing herbs, fruits and vegetables, which strongly contributes to the market growth. Being pesticide and herbicide free, fruits and vegetables lead the segment and are developing at a CAGR of 14.5%-15.5% during the forecast period from 2020 to 2025. |
