Steps of cultivation
  1. Prepare growth medium and generously moisten the surface
  2. Distribute seeds evenly and avoid partial clusters
  3. Moisten the seeds extensively with a water sprayer
  4. Cover and weigh down with any cover (e.g. a baking stone), store in a dark place
  5. Germination occurs in 6 - 14 days
  6. Remove cover and transfer to aquaponics system
  7. The ripe microgreens can be harvested after 18 to 24 days
  8. Harvesting should take place in the morning or evening due to cooler temperatures

Lovage microgreens (Levisticum officinale) require an unusually long blackout period of 8-14 days to develop their characteristic celery-parsley flavor profile and tender stem structure. During this extended dark period, trays must remain covered and weighted to maintain seed-to-medium contact and promote upward growth. Unlike many microgreens, lovage seeds do not require pre-soaking and are sown directly onto pre-moistened growing medium. The blackout period extends through most of the germination phase, which takes 6-14 days at 21°C. After removing covers, provide 12-14 hours of light daily to support photosynthetic development. Total cultivation time is significantly longer than typical microgreens, requiring 18-29 days from sowing to harvest . Plants should be harvested when they reach 4-5 cm in height, cutting stems cleanly above the soil line. Lovage microgreens contain notable concentrations of vitamins B, C, E, and K, with calcium levels reaching 150 mg per 100g fresh weight. Due to their intense flavor, only small quantities are needed for culinary applications.
