Facts - Dill

Cultivation
- Coconut soil
- Peat-free potting soil
- Hemp mats
Nutritional values per 100g
Steps of cultivation
- Place the seeds in a bowl of clean water to soak for 4 hours
- Prepare growth medium and generously moisten the surface
- Distribute seeds evenly and avoid partial clusters
- Moisten the seeds extensively with a water sprayer
- Cover and weigh down with any cover (e.g. a baking stone), store in a dark place
- Germination occurs in 4 - 5 days
- Remove cover and transfer to aquaponics system
- After 12 to 15 days, the ripe microgreens can be harvested
- Harvesting should take place in the morning or evening due to cooler temperatures
Dill microgreens (Anethum graveolens) require careful temperature management due to their sensitivity to heat stress during germination. Optimal soil temperature for germination is 24°C (75°F), but this must be reduced to 16-18°C (60-65°F) immediately after seedlings emerge to prevent damping-off and disease pressure . Ambient temperatures above 24°C can significantly inhibit germination and increase susceptibility to fungal pathogens. Dill microgreens develop their characteristic sweet, citrusy flavor only under proper temperature conditions, with cooler temperatures enhancing essential oil production. Seeds should be sown densely at 10-15 seeds per square inch, pressed firmly into the growing medium, and lightly covered with soil or vermiculite. Germination takes 5-10 days, with total time to harvest ranging from 10-21 days depending on desired size . Harvest when the first true leaves begin to emerge, cutting at 4-10 cm height. Dill microgreens are particularly suitable for pairing with fish, egg, and potato dishes.
